Program Description
Preserving His Legacy Of Courage. Help us continue the legacy of Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Reese by sponsoring a school to receive a copy of these books, along with a learning session. The story of Rev. Dr. F. D. Reese is defined by courage and strength. Like many Civil Rights leaders during the Movement, Rev. Dr. F. D. Reese had a story of self-sacrifice and devotion to building a better future for all people.
- While many students are familiar with the names of Civil Rights leaders such as Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, W.E.B Du Bois, and Rosa Parks, they may not have the opportunity to learn about the life and legacy that these icons fought for.
- That is why we created The Visual Journey Through Civil Rights. This five-year program places 50 books filled with images and stories highlighting the lives and leadership of Civil Rights icons in schools and includes an instructor-led session. By supplying students with visual representations of history and providing formal instruction, we hope to engage students with the stories of days past and empower them to use what they've learned to better their world.
- Students will learn about leadership, courage, and foresight through discussions, guided visual learning, and interactive instruction.
